Situated just a few miles outside of Ballater, Cambus O’May offers comfortable and versatile accommodation options to start your adventure from. Birkelunn is our original Norwegian log house, originally build for Lady Glentanar in 1938 while Braehead Cottage has recently been renovated and has stunning views over the river Dee.

Whether your perfect adventure is spent on the hill, in the river or even in the sky we have listed below some of the highlights the local areas has to offer. From fishing to gliding and golf to horse riding in the wonderful Caledonian forest, Royal Deeside is sure to deliver.

 

Salmon Fishing

The Dee is one of the the big four Scottish Salmon rivers. Famous for its spring run, the river offers an exciting opportunity to catch a salmon. Explore our Cambus O’May beat to find out more.


Mountain Biking

Ballater and the surrounding hills have become a mecca for mountain bikers looking to explore Aberdeenshire’s growing network. With two dedicated bike shops in Ballater, equipment can be hired locally and trail maps are available in stores or online.


Holiday COttages

Explore our two beautifully presented holiday cottages in the heart of Royal Deeside. Birkelunn is an original Norwegian log cabin that comfortably sleeps 11. Braehead Cottage has been recently refurbished and sleeps 8


Gliding

The Deeside Gliding Club is just a couple of miles down the road and offers the chance to explore Royal Deeside from above. Try gliding for the first time or base yourself there for an unforgettable week of exploring the local sky.


DEer Stalking

There is a thriving population of Red and Roe deer in the surrounding woods and hills. To keep the population healthy and in balance with their habitat, stalking opportunities are available through the year.


GOLF & Tennis

Enjoy golf at nearby 18 hole golf courses in Ballater and Aboyne, or venture further up the Dee and play at Braemar. Local Tennis facilities are available in Ballater.


Horse Riding

Explore the local hills, glens and Caledonian forrest on horseback. There are a number of equestrian centres nearby.

 


Loch Fishing

There are a number of local Loch and wild brown trout fisheries that can be accessed within easy reach of our Holiday Houses.

Skiing

With two ski centres within 30 minutes drive of our holiday houses, make Scotland your next skiing holiday. Glenshee Ski Centre and The Lecht offer hours of winter fun in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park.
